The Anna-FolkArt Association
A class in Bulgarian folk singing in Dryanovo, in its thirteenth year.
The Anna-FolkArt Association was founded in Veliko Tarnovo on 23 January 2013. Ana Borisova has been its chair from the beginning. The association works with children in folk singing, music and dance.
In 2018 the association moved to the town of Dryanovo, where, together with the municipality, it runs a class in Bulgarian folk singing.
How it is taught
From 2013 to 2025 the folk singing class was taught one to one; since 2025 it has followed the model of folk singing teaching that Borisova created in 2024, the “Singing Mirror”.
From 2013 to 2025 the class was open to children and adults; since 2025 it takes children from the second to the seventh grade.
Teaching runs from October to June, with sessions twice a month. It starts with voice placement and breathing, goes on through the dialect and the ornamentation of the region, and ends with a whole song sung in front of an audience. The repertoire is mainly from northern Bulgaria, with particular care for the authentic songs of Dryanovo.
Competitions
Her pupils take part regularly in national folklore competitions, among them “Orfeevo izvorche”, “Pesenna daga nad Kutev” in Kotel and “Zableyalo mi agantse”, as well as in the association’s own concerts in Dryanovo.
