Severnyashki slavei
The competitions and the songbook, dedicated to the songs of Boris Mashalov and Ivan Panovski.
“Severnyashki slavei” is the name of two folklore competitions and of one songbook. All three carry the same idea: that the songs of northern Bulgaria should be sung by the next generation the way they were sung.
The competitions
Until 2014 the Anna-FolkArt Association ran and hosted two competitions: the national folklore competition “Severnyashki slavei”, with the songs of Boris Mashalov and Ivan Panovski, in Veliko Tarnovo, and the international folklore competition in singing, playing and dancing “Severnyashki slavei” in the town of Suhindol.
The songbook
In December 2015 the songbook “Severnyashki slavei, part I. Folk songs with piano accompaniment” was published, compiled by Ana Borisova and issued by St Cyril and St Methodius University Press in Veliko Tarnovo.
It was launched with a concert given by students of St Cyril and St Methodius University, New Bulgarian University in Sofia, the South-West University in Blagoevgrad, the Filip Kutev National School of Folk Arts in Kotel, the National School of Folk Arts in Shiroka Laka, the 144th Narodni Buditeli school in Sofia and the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School in Sofia.
